Dual Language Immersion Program

Solvang School District is proud to offer an optional Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program for incoming Kindergartners.

Solvang DLI students will achieve fluency and academic proficiency in two languages, attain high academic achievement and develop multicultural understanding to become culturally sensitive and meaningful engaged citizens for a 21st century global society.

Parent Information Meeting

Interested families are invited to attend a parent meeting on Wednesday, March 14 or Wednesday, April 11.

Time:  6:30-7:30  Location:  Cafeteria

Why DLI?

Early acquisition of a second language has a profound impact on intellectual growth, such as,

  • strengthens cognitive skills,
  • increases a student’s ability to adapt to other types of learning,
  • enhances creativity and problem-solving skills,
  • improves overall academic performance, and
  • can result in higher scores on standardized tests.

Solvang Elementary School District’s DLI Program will be taught by fully credentialed teachers and will adhere to the California Common Core Standards in all subjects. Students will be instructed in English and Spanish in grades K-5. Literacy will begin in both languages, for the language of instruction will be strictly divided during the day by time and/or content. At the beginning levels students may respond in either language, but the teachers will only speak and instruct in English or in the target language, as designated.
