Reporting An Absence

If your student is absent, we need to hear from you! Use one of the following ways below:

  • Call the office at 805-688-4810. Dial extension 1 for Lower Campus and extension 2 for Upper Campus. 

  • Email our office

  • Message us using ParentSquare – Search for “Office Staff.” This email goes to all office personnel. That way if someone is out, we are not missing your message.

  • Respond to the ParentSquare attendance notification sent in the afternoon.

  • In your message please include your name, the date of the absence and the reason for the absence.

Illness Protocol

If your student has any of the following symptoms, s/he will have to stay home until symptoms have improved or the child is cleared to return by a medical provider.

  • Cough or Cold

  • Difficulty Breathing            

  • Rash/ Skin Concern

  • Mouth Sores

  • Sore Throat

  • Fever

  • Eye Problems

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhea  

  • Stomach aches

If your child has been exposed to someone positive for Covid-19 and remains symptom free, s/he may be at school. Shall they begin having any signs or symptoms of covid they are to stay home and be tested for covid before returning.

Your child may return when:

  • Symptoms have significantly improved

  • Your child is feeling better and can comfortably participate in routine classroom activities.

  • It has been 24 Hours since the last fever episode, WITHOUT the assistance of any fever reducing medication. 

If your child is out of school for  3 consecutive days, we will require a doctor’s note clearing their safe return back to school.

Independent Study

If you need to request independent study for extended illness or travel, please contact the office at 805-688-4810. Dial extension 1 for the lower campus or extension 2 for the upper campus

Unexcused Absences

  • Education Code §48205 states that the only valid excuse from school attendance is illness, quarantine, medical, dental, optometrical, or chiropractic appointment, attending a funeral of an immediate family member, religious holiday, religious retreat attendance, employment conference attendance, or court appearance. 

  • Please note that absences for travel or being out of town are not an excused absence, even when the school is notified. This does not apply for independent study.

  • While our office staff works to make sure we have contacted you regarding the reason your student is absent, if you have not provided an answer within three days, the absence is marked as unexcused and counts towards truancy.
